Stamp Design Christmas In Netherlands
Created For:

Nederland has always felt beautiful to me, with its charming architecture and lively spirit. Even though Christmas wasn’t part of my culture, I believed in the magic of it. That inspired me to create a stamp collection that tells a festive story, connecting Dutch elements with holiday joy.
At the heart of the collection is a red swirl, path of Sinterklaas’s sleigh as it travels across the country. The swirl goes through every piece, much like the way I imagined Santa’s sleigh leaving a shimmering dust behind.
In the first stamp, I reimagined the royal Dutch lion as Sinterklaas, blending Dutch pride with festive joy. The lion, symbolizes independence, transforms into a holiday figure with Sinterklaas’s distinct hat, making it clear that this is Netherlands’ version of Santa. The red and blue further reflect Dutch identity. For the second stamp, I turned the Dutch clog into a sleigh. It sets the tone for the journey, capturing the essence of Sinterklaas and Dutch culture.
The first-day cover extends the story into the streets with Dutch houses. Sinterklaas leaves his staff behind in the sleigh as if to deliver gifts, keeping the narrative in motion.
The booklet designs carry on the lively spirit. In one, the sleigh speeds past leaving its trail, resulting in gifts falling. In the other, Sinterklaas’s staff gets tangled in a tree, adding humour and motion to the scene while hinting at the rush and excitement of the holidays.
Finally, the poster ties it all together, with the red swirl going through each design like a thread connecting moments in a story. It serves not just as a promotional poster but also presents the collection as one world, inviting everyone to experience the magic of the Christmas in Netherlands.
