Arctic Monkeys AM Record Design

Arctic Monkeys is a British alternative rock band that debuted with the Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not album. Known for their distinctive sound, their music combines sharp, edgy tunes with a dynamic mix of styles, embodying the essence of alt-rock. Although AM wasn’t their first album, it felt like a second debut due to its success and being in the Top 100 Best Albums list. Unlike their earlier work, AM incorporates elements of various genres, making it a genre-bending music. The album explores themes of doubt, love, questioning, and realization, all wrapped in an alluring, sexy, and yearning tone. It resonates deeply, capturing the raw emotion of being in love and vulnerable.
For this project, I aimed to reflect the messy yet deliberate nature of Arctic Monkeys’ music. Their sound is youthful, free-spirited, and uniquely theirs, always leaving listeners feeling good and full of energy. By using a dominantly black for the cover design, I wanted to emphasize the alternative and carefree vibe of the band with crayons. The colours and textures in my collage represent the blend of chaos and precision in their music, representing their individuality and the effortless way their personalities show through in both their concerts and recordings. Through this approach, I wanted to mimic Arctic Monkeys’ ability to stand apart from other bands, showcasing their unique style and creative authenticity.

These designs, including the the collage, paint, typography, label and sticker designs are done by hand.
