Decade of Colours

Created For:

Capstone project for a Creative Arts Production and Performance course at Western University.

Year:

2024-2025

Using Pantone's Colour of the Year, the "Decade of Colours" illustration project explores the last decade, from 2015 to 2025. It shows that these selected colours for each year are not just seen in fashion or design trends but also in the life-changing moments of disastrous global events. From each year, a major event has been selected, from refugee crises and terror attacks to natural disasters, wars, and a global pandemic, all of which have left deep emotional and societal scars.
By visually connecting these moments to their corresponding colours, the series suggests that colour, much like music, holds the power to evoke memory. These are not aesthetic colour palettes; they capture the emotional tone in each event, including trauma, resilience, fear, and calls for change. The colours become symbolic memorials to events that shaped lives, shook nations, and must not be forgotten.
The purpose is clear, and it is to resist collective amnesia. We shouldn’t have to endure tragedy again in order to remember it. This project stands as a visual archive and as a reminder of what happened and how it felt.

These design are done using Adobe Creative suite and Procreate.
